Do I need to get in shape before I start CrossFit?

When we do a Google image search for Crossfit, the images you will see first are people in incredible shape. These people are the elite. The NFL champions if you will. These images are often the first impression of Crossfit that a prospective client will see. It is extremely intimidating!

The further down the google search you scroll, the closer to reality you get.

People who are overweight are the perfect candidates for CrossFit, especially if their goals are weight loss and gaining strength. Paired with a healthy diet, the foundation of the CrossFit ideology, a journey to wellness is almost a guarantee.

Next to Nutrition, the next most important aspect of Crossfit is metabolic conditioning.

Metabolic conditioning and intensity go hand and hand. This is another great example as to why CrossFit is ideal for overweight clients.

The amount of work that needs to be done to maintain intensity varies from person to person. It is not one size fits all. The end goal is a consistent amount of intensity across the board.

This is where experienced trainers come in. These experts are able to tailor an individual’s movements around injuries and skill level, all the while maintaining the stimulus of the workout. This creates the perfect environment for success, regardless of your experience, weight, bad back, or any other excuse.

Do not let Google determine if you are “too out of shape” for Crossfit. Everyone’s journey to wellness starts somewhere. You just need to take that first step, wherever that may be.
